Will this meter tell me if the water is safe from bacteria?

What is a good TDS reading for drinking water?

An excellent TDS level for drinking water is that which totals less than 300 ppm. Water with 300-500 ppm is still safe, but anything beyond will not only alter the taste but also compromise water quality.

Does the meter need calibration?

Indeed, to get the correct results it should be periodically calibrated. If you want to get precise measurement results, you should calibrate your digital TDS meter with a standard solution or a known water source once every few months.

Can I test warm water or hot water?

Testing can be done on water that is slightly warm, but avoid hot water over 80°C as it may cause sensor damage or data to be inaccurate. It is always advisable to let hot water cool down before testing it with your meter.

The reading changes slightly every time I test the same water. Is that okay?

Yes, small differences are allowed. Slightly variations of TDS values can be explained by temperature changes, air bubbles, or movement. The meter is still accurate as long as the readings are in a limited range.
