Rinse and soak chickpeas overnight.
Cook soaked chickpeas in a pressure cooker until soft.
Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, onions, and sauté until onions turn golden brown.
Add ginger, garlic, green chilies, and tomatoes. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
Stir in chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
Add cooked chickpeas, garam masala, and water as required to make a thick gravy. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
